Darkness Before Dawn by J. A. London (5)

Only sunlight can save us.

We built the wall to keep them out, to keep us safe. But it also makes us prisoners, trapped in what's left of our ravaged city, fearing nightfall.

After the death of my parents, it's up to me--as the newest delegate for humanity--to bargain with our vampire overlord. I thought I was ready. I thought I knew everything there was to know about the monsters. Then again, nothing could have prepared me for Lord Valentine . . . or his son. Maybe not all vampires are killers. Maybe it's safe to let one in.

Only one thing is certain: Even the wall is not enough. A war is coming and we cannot hide forever.

Reason I purchased book: Really don't need to ask just look at the cover .... And it is abit Vampires so completely sold :)

Openin Line: As the carriage rolled across the desolate plains, the assassin slid his gaze over to his traveling companions.

Pages in book:  342 pages

I just luved luved luved this book ... My only regret is that I never purchased this book in Hardback .... And that it ended tooo soon ... It is great when u get engrossed into a novel and u really don't want it to end ...

There is a downside to this novel and that is that it is a Trilogy ........ I know, I know another one ..... But the characters are brilliant and the story is great with abit of a twist to your usual vampire novel ... It is a mother and son team that wrote it and I have to say that I impressed and v v curious to read their other works ...

Well lets get back to the novel ... The world knows about the existence of Vampires and there was a terrible war that was raged where both human and vampire suffered ... An agreement was stuck where a human delegate would bargain with the Vampire Lord each week on the blood supply ... The latest delegate is Dawn (whose parents where killed for being delegates) who has gotten thrown into this role to negotiate for the humans in the city.

Even though the book is set in modern times there is still the old world element as Lord Valentine is set in his ways and likes to conduct business like in the 1800's includin dress code much to Dawn's dislike ... Enter Lord Valentines son and u just know there is goin to be trouble ... He is not your typical Vampire (bloodsuckin and ruthless) but the opposite charmin and willin to risk his life for humans ...

Dawn has entered a new world where she has to try very carefully to keep the balance between the Vampires and the Humans ... Because if she fails than the human race will be thrown into another war ...

Have I said how much I really enjoyed this book :) ........ It would make a great movie and the only downside is that you have to wait for the rest of the series to be released ....... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So if you want a good book to read go out and pick this one up you will not be disappointed ...

I rate this book 5 stars

The Passage by Justin Cronin (5)

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.

I purchased this book because: I had heard alot about it so wanted to see if was any good

The opening Lines: Before she became the Girl from Nowhere - the One Who Walked In, the First and Last and Only, who lived a thousand years - she was just a little girl in Iowa, named Amy, Amy Harper Bellafonte.

Pages in Novel: A Massive 766

I am lovin the cover to this book ... And am so pleased that Ridley Scott has already picked this novel up to do a movie version because it will be awesome. The only frustrating thing I can say about this book is that the way that it ends. After reading over 700 pages for it to suddenly end the way it does to discovering that we have to wait until 1212 for the next installment is just mean ...

Someone described this book as Dracula meets The Road and I would have to agree ... Although these Vampires are not the nice good looking smart Vampires that we are used to but the ugly fast rip out your throat in 1 second kind .... Which I loved ...

This is a monster of a book with over 750 pages and it is small writing as well ... It is divided into three different sections and periods of time and is very cleverly done ... You get a real sense of the characters and you cannot help but go on the journey with them ... This is definitely an adult book as there are graphic scenes of violence and adult content ... But I loved it ....

The beginning of the novel is set around our time period and introduces the main characters of Amy, Lacey, Carter and Wolgast. And how each comes from different worlds but how there lives will be intertwined together for years to come. When a secret government experiment goes wrong and 12 dangerous, changed killers are released into the world the effect on the world will never be the same ...

The second part of the novel jumps forward 100 years in the future ... Where we see just how the world has changed ... And we are introduced to a group of survivors and their world ... There is not really alot to look forward to just keeping alive and surviving ... The power is running out and the Virals are coming ...

Can a 6 year old girl manage to save the world ..... You are just going to have to read the book and find out ...

Some of my favourite quotes are:

He said he had a plan, but the only plan that she could see seemed to be him sitting in the house doing nothing for Amy or even cleaning up the breakfast dishes, while she worked all day. Pg 6

I feel as if I've entered a new era of my life. What strange place our lives can carry us to. Pg 24

She believed that this was how the world felt to most people, even those closest to her, her parents and sisters and friends at school; they lived their whole lives in a prison of drab silence, a world without a voice. Pg 55

OBE. Overcome by events. That was what was happening now. The world-the human race-had been overcome by events. Pg 233

It's morning; you're alive. pg 310

"Those batteries are like a woman, Michael," he liked to say. "You've got to learn to listen." Pg 314

"I don't believe that," Arlo said. "And I can't believe you do either. If that's all there is, what's the point of anything." Pg 335

"We've all got our jobs to do, right?," She took his hand again and squeezed it, as if to seal a bargain between them. "Mine apparently is to do as I'm told and not be difficult. So for now, that's what I'm going to do." Pg 375

The harder he tried to be a husband, the less she felt like a wife to him, until - and this was the bad part, the part that didn't seem fair to her - she'd found herself actually disliking him. pg 437

Someone once told me that part of you lives on so long as somebody remembers you. Pg 670

I am sooooo excited for the next part to this but frustrated that I will have to wait at least another year for it ....... grrrrrrrrrrrrr ........

So if you like your vamps, end of the world, fast paced action novel this one is for you :)

I rate this book 5*****

An interview with the author where he answers some questions about the book .....

"Insatiable" by Meg Cabot [5]

Sick of hearing about vampires? So is Meena Harper.
But her bosses are making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn't believe in them.
Not that Meena isn't familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you're going to die. [Not that you're going to believe her. No one ever does.]
But not even Meena's precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets - then makes the mistake of falling in love with - Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side. It's a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire hunters, would prefer to see him dead for.
The problem is, Lucien's already dead. Maybe that's why he's the first guy Meena's ever met whom she could see herself having a future with. See, while meena's always been able to see everyone else's future, she's never been able to look into her own.
And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare. Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future...
If she ever has one.
OK, so after reading the Twilight and Evernight series ... I promised myself that I wouldn't pick up another vampire novel again ... Well so much for that promise ... So for all those lovers of vampire novels you will want to sink your teeth into this one.
Meg Cabot is a brilliant writer and I love her novels and she has really outdone herself with this one. It's funny, exciting, romantic and mocks the whole vampire genre which I love, but at the same time it keeps you glued to the pages to find out what happens next. The characters are all brilliant in there own special way and I couldn't decide who I like best as they each have something special about just them. The plot is well thought out and very funny as it takes the Mickey out of all those vampire novels and movies and I loved how she has made mention of a few of them.
While this book is quite light-hearted it is not a book for young teens, I would recommend 17 and over at least. This would be a great summer/winter read and you will enjoy it. Hopefully there will be sequel next year sometime.
I rate this book 5 stars.

Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh (3)

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she's the best—but she doesn't know if she's good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option...even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

I purchased this book because: I was recommended this series by a fellow book-lover because she knew I loved Vampire Novels ... :)

Opening lines: When Elena told people she was a vampire hunter, their first reaction was an inevitable gasp, followed by, 'You go around sticking those sharp stakes in their evil putrid hearts?'

Well don't you just love the cover to this :) ... I am glad that I purchased the UK cover cos the other ones are not really nice at all .... Well enough of me being a book snob :) ... Good to read an author who is on this side of the world ... Well New Zealand .... Nalini Singh was born in Fiji but lives in New Zealand ...

This is another series that involves Vampires and Angels .... Where Angels and Vampires are seen by humans and live among us ... And it is definitely an adult Read ... There is some violence in the novels but there is quite abit of sexual scenes ... So if you don't like that in your novel this series is not for you ....

The main character of Elena I love .... She is a Vampire Hunter and works for the 'Guild'. When she gets a job from her best friend Sara ( Director of the Guild ) she starts to worry ... Her new employer is none other than Hunky Immortal Archangel 'Raphael'. Elena is not too worried about getting the job done but whether she will be able to survive her new employer ...

There is something very special about Elena which the archangel 'Raphael' senses .... And it will be interesting to learn more about her past as the series develops ....

This is a different twist on the whole vampire genre .... In this series the 'Angels' are the ones that create Vampires .... And when one of them goes walk-about it is up to the 'Guild' to bring them safely back to their masters ... But this new job that Elena has been offered is a little bit different ... She is not asked to hunt a Vampire but an 'Angel' and a very old Angel to boot ...

Some of my favourite quotes: 'What, you got a big hunt coming on? .... No. But I do have a high chance of meeting a horrible death, within the next few hours. Might as well do something good and up my shot at getting into heaven.' pg 12

I did enjoy the novel and the story line is really interesting but it has adult themes running throughout the book .... I probably would have rated it more but for the sex scenes ...

I rate this book 3 ***

Infinity by Sherrilyn Kenyon (31/2)

At fourteen, Nick Gautier thinks he knows everything about the world around him. Streetwise, tough and savvy, his quick sarcasm is the stuff of legends. . .until the night when his best friends try to kill him. Saved by a mysterious warrior who has more fighting skills than Chuck Norris, Nick is sucked into the realm of the Dark-Hunters: immortal vampire slayers who risk everything to save humanity.

Nick quickly learns that the human world is only a veil for a much larger and more dangerous one: a world where the captain of the football team is a werewolf and the girl he has a crush on goes out at night to stake the undead.

But before he can even learn the rules of this new world, his fellow students are turning into flesh eating zombies. And he’s next on the menu.

As if starting high school isn't hard enough. . .now Nick has to hide his new friends from his mom, his chainsaw from the principal, and keep the zombies and the demon Simi from eating his brains, all without getting grounded or suspended. How in the world is he supposed to do that?

I purchased this book because: Really liked the cover and heard good things about the author

Opening Lines: Free Will .. Some have called it the greatest gift bestowed on humanity. It is our ability to control what happens to us and exactly how it happens. We are masters of our fate and no one can foist their will on us unless we allow it.

What a great opening line ...... I have to say I did enjoy this book which is the 1st in yet another series .... But it is definitely a boys book ... And although I did find myself laughing out loud on a number of occasions ... The banter was definitely a teenage boy with lots of blood and guts and zombies attacking the local high school football team ....

I loved the main character of Nick .... He was brilliant .... And his sense of humour was awesome ... How he looked at things around him and reacted to them was really funny .... Although I did have to keep reminding myself that he was only 14 years of age and not older ....

The side kicks in this book, especially the character of Bubba was brilliant ... And the scary thing is that I actually know a few people like his character ... lol ..... Another character which I loved was Simi she could totally Kick Butts in a really cute but deadly way ...

Some quotes which I loved ...'He'd much rather have brains than money. Though right now, a rocket launcher might be nice too' Pg 10

'Man, first I'm shot, now I'm going to be a friggin' zombie. At this rate, I'll never live to have my first date or a driver's license. Ah, Gah!' Pg 86

'This little bugger in front of him was destined to alter his future. No wonder he couldn't use his powers against him.' Pg 121

'He honestly didn't know what to say that wouldn't make her twice as mad, which was not his goal right now. The name of the game ... Survival. I value my freedom, but I see severe restrictions ahead.' Pg 202

'If I can't take care of your problems one way ... I'll take care of them anotha' Pg 205

Nick scoffed. 'This ain't the army, boy. It's every man for himself. Fall behind. Get eaten.' Pg 223

'Just when you think nothing get better, it always does. Trust me. My akri says that tragedy and adversity are the stones we sharpen our swords against so that we can fight new battles.' Pg 234

'Girls ain't nothing but trouble. Yeah, but it was the only kind of trouble he wanted to launch himself into headfirst and wallow there until he was pruny from it.' Pg 240

This is not a bad book just I am not an older teenage boy reading it .... It will be interesting to see the other characters develop in the rest of the series ...

This book as abit of everything really romance, zombies, demons, vampires and loads of fight scenes .... Every boys dream .... But I would recommend that the other teen boys would read it as there is violence and grown up themes throughout ...

I rate this novel 3 1/2 ***

Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris (41/2)

Sookie Stackhouse has finally settled into a relationship with the Viking vampire Eric, and her errant brother Jason seems to have his life in order, too. But all the other people in Sookie’s life – Eric himself, her former lover Bill, her friend and boss Sam – are having family problems. Eric’s maker shows up with Eric’s ‘brother’ in tow, the ailing Bill can only be healed by a blood sibling, and Sam’s brother’s marriage is about to take place... or will it? The furor raised by the coming out of the two-natured has yet to settle; some people are just not ready to sit down to dinner with a man who turns into a dog. And Sookie herself is still recovering from her last ordeal. She’s definitely improving, physically and mentally, but she’s always going to have some dark moments now. The werewolves tell her that there have been strange and ominous passers-by in the Stackhouse woods; now Sookie is about to come face-to-face with one of her more distant relatives...

I purchased this book because: I love the Sookie Stackhouse series so of course I would get the latest one :)

Opening lines: 'I feel bad that I'm leaving you like this,' Amelia said. Her eyes were puffy and red. They'd been that way, off and on, ever since Tray Dawson's funeral.

It is only when you start to read a book that you realize that you really love this series ... I have to admit I miss my adventures with Sookie and the rest of the supernatural beings ....

Things got abit hairy in the last book with the Fay War and so many of the most loved characters either being killed or wounded really badly ...

So it is with a happy heart that I am reading about a few of my favourite characters again ... Eric the hunky vampire, Sam the shapeshaper, Alcide the gorgeous werewolve, Bill the brooding vampire, Pam the fashion kick ass vampire, Claude the devilish handsome Faerie, Jason the brother who you love even though he is misguided ... and of course Sookie who always seems to be in the thick of it ....

Sookie is trying to get back to normal but what is normal in Sookie's world ... lol .... Eric's world is turned upside down when an unexpected visitor makes an appearance ... And to top that off the FBI are now sniffing around ... With more dead bodies turning up .....

You gotta love this series ... Abit sad that now that I have to wait for the next installment .... If your a fan of the series True Blood ... Then this series is a must ......

Favourite quotes: 'There' said Sam. I had to strain to hear him. Someone had put Jace Everett's 'Bad Things' on, and just about everyone in the bar was singing along. Pg 25 Gotta love the plug for the song in the book ... :) And love the song :)

"Thanks for the warning. I'll go to the house now. You're my favourite Breather." Pg 193 Just love Pam .... She has a wicked sense of humor ...

I love, love, love this series ....

I rate this book 41/2 ****

Have you ever wondered what secrets lurk behind the closed doors of New York City's wealthiest families? They're powerful, they're famous... they're undead.

Schuyler Van Alen's blood legacy has just been called into question--is the young vampire in fact a Blue Blood, or is it the sinister Silver Blood that runs through her veins? As controversy swirls, Schuyler is left stranded in the Force household, trapped under the same roof as her cunning nemesis, Mimi Force, and her forbidden crush, Jack Force.

When one of the Gates of Hell is breached by Silver Bloods in Rio de Janeiro, however, the Blue Bloods will need Schuyler on their side. Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz (4)

When the Mayflower set sail in 1620, it carried on board the men and women who would shape America: Miles Standish; John Alden; Constance Hopkins. But some among the Pilgrims were not pure of heart; they were not escaping religious persecution. Indeed, they were not even human. They were vampires. The vampires assimilated quickly into the New World. Rising to levels of enormous power, wealth, and influence, they were the celebrated blue bloods of American society. The Blue Bloods vowed that their immortal status would remain a closely guarded secret. And they kept that secret for centuries.

But now, in New York City, the secret is seeping out. Schuyler Van Alen is a sophomore at a prestigious private school. Suddenly, when she turns fifteen, there is a visible mosaic of blue veins on her arm. She starts to crave raw food and she is having flashbacks to ancient times. Then a girl from her school is found dead... drained of all her blood. Schuyler doesn't know what to think.
Could those vampire legends really be true? Steeped in vampire lore and set against the heady backdrop of the rich, young, and powerful in the heart of New York City, Blue Bloods will be devoured by Melissa de la Cruz's legion fans.

This is a series that I have on my TRL for ages ... And I am finally getting around to reading them ... I spent a fortune getting the first book and luckily for me K-Mart got the rest of the series in for half the price .... Go K-Mart ...

OK back to the book ...... How would I describe this book .... A cross between Gossip Girl and Buffy probably ... And I am loving the series ...

Schuyler is the main character and I really like her .... She is down to earth but still has the air of the upper New Yorkers .... The only problem is that she has to try and convince the Elite Blue Bloods that an ancient enemy is starting to rise again and they need to prepare themselves for war .... (While still in high school and trying hard not to be like all the rest of the elite designer girls)

As always there is the boy factor ... Especially the most popular boy at school Jack who for some reason is paying her alot of attention recently ....

Will she be able to control her new powers and unearth the traiter in their ranks?

This is a great wee series that I am enjoying ... If you love your fantasy vampire books then this is a series for you to get your teeth into :) ...

"Dead in the Family" by Charlaine Harris [4]

It's all about family ...
If you think your relationships are complicated, think again: you haven't seen anything like the ones in Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie Stackhouse is dealing with a whole host of family problems, ranging from her own kin [a non-human fairy and a telepathic second cousin] demanding a place in her life, to her lover Eric's vampire sire, an ancient being who arrives with Eric's 'brother' in tow at a most inopportune moment. And Sookie's tracking down a distant relation of her ailing neighbour [and ex], Vampire Bill Compton.
In addition to the multitude of family issues complicating her life, the werewolf pack of Shreveport has asked Sookie for a special favour, and since Sookie is an obliging young woman, she agrees. But this favour for the wolves has dire results for Sookie, who is still recovering from the trauma of her abduction during the Fairy War.
Who hasn't been waiting for the next installment of the 'True Blood' series ...
Sookie is recovering from being kidnapped in the Fairy War and being tortured, she is recovering from the death of her cousin Claudine and also Tray Dawson, she has nasty scars that are slowly healing but the jumpiness and nightmares will take more time.
The fairy world has finally been sealed and all seems to be quiet for a while ... but in Bon Temps nothing is what it seems and the quiet reprieve doesn't last long.
Sookie is once again drawn into murder, mystery and mayhem and this time it is a little closer to home. And Sookie wouldn't be Sookie if she wasn't worried about everyone else and trying to fix everything in her own way.
Another good installment to this series, but wait there will be more so you'll have to hang out for another. I enjoyed reading this one but it isn't my favourite in the series. Personally I think it really needs to finish soon as it's kind of dragging on a little ... Easy read, you'll get drawn into the story and swept away with all the intrigue. A little bad language in this one and some sex scenes, but for all those Sookie fans you shouldn't be too disappointed.
I rate this book 4 stars.

Betrayals by Lili St. Crow (4)

She's no angel . . .

Poor Dru Anderson. Her parents are long gone, her best friend is a werewolf, and she's just learned that the blood flowing through her veins isn't entirely human. (So what else is new?)

Now Dru is stuck at a secret New England Schola for other teens like her, and there's a big problem - she's the only girl in the place. A school full of cute boys wouldn't be so bad, but Dru's killer instinct says that one of them wants her dead. And with all eyes on her, discovering a traitor within the Order could mean a lot more than social suicide. . .

Can Dru survive long enough to find out who has betrayed her trust - and maybe even her heart?

This is the second book in the series Strange Angels and it is just as good as the first book ... But again the only downside with the novel is the language .... There is a fair few swear words in the book so be warned ...

At the end of the first novel Dru just made it to secret Training School where she thought she would be safe ..... She is sorely mistaken ....... Just when you think you know who all the bad guys are you are proven wrong ......

The two main boy characters are brilliant you have the newly changed werewolf on one side and the hunky Christophe on the other ..... Can Dru learn all she needs to know in order to survive? ...... And when she finds out about her past who can she trust to turn to? ....

Cannot wait for the next part of the story ........ Where I would say Dru is going to kick Butts !!!

I rate this book 4 stars

live and train alongside the hunters without anyone noticing her increasing need for blood.

Even though she is with the boy she loves more than anyone else in the world,
Bianca can't help worrying about the family and friends she left behind.

Caught between three feuding worlds, it's starting to feel as though she'll never
be entirely at peace again.

When another betrayal puts the lovers in mortal danger once more,
they realize that all they truly have is each other. But with the secret of Bianca's birth
taking hold, not even Lucas can help her win her toughest fight.

Book three of the "Evernight Series"

This book is set 4 days after the attach on Evernight Academy and Bianca and Lucas are back with Black Cross again... something that they really don't want, but have little choice in the matter.

Bianca trains with them and learns from them, but keeps her secret that she is a half vampire from them... it would mean death if they found out. This cell that they are with moves to New York and major things happen that make Bianca and Lucas on the run again.

Don't wont to give too much away, but things turn out bad for the lovers...

Will the final installment set everything to right...we'll have to wait and see!

Absolutely love reading this series...even more than the Twilight series.

I really like Bianca and Lucas and how they are growing together.

Lots of action, I read it within two days.

Enjoy.

I rate this book 4 stars.

"A Touch of Dead" by Charlaine Harris [4]

Sookie Stackhouse is everybody's favourite cocktail waitress:
a cute, bubbly blonde... who can read minds. But Sookie's far from being the only person
in Bon Temps, Louisiana with a handicap, what with the local vampire population demanding
their unhuman rights and weres fighting for territory...

In fact, Bon Temps is a pretty lively place these days!

A Touch of dead collects together all the Sookie Stackhouse short stories in one volume.

Absolutely love the Sookie series and thought this was the next in the series...
so I was a little disappointed to find out that it wasn't.

This novel ties up some loose ends if you like... it is a series of short stories that
interweave themselves between some of the original books.

Most of the characters are people you already know and I guess the author felt like that
some of the stories needed more detail to them. Clever idea!
In all there are five short stories.

Well written, and short enough that you could easily finish this novel in a sitting.

Really looking forward to the next book in the series.

For all the Sookie fans you'll enjoy this one...

I rate this book 4 stars.

The Struggle (The Vampire Diaries) by L J Smith (4)

In book two of the first Vampire Diaries omnibus, The Struggle, Elena quickly realizes that the only thing more dangerous that being in love with a vampire is being desired by two. As Stefan struggles to suppress his instinctive thirst, Damon persists in his quest for Elena's heart. A dark turn of events forces Elena to risk her mortality to save one of her immortal suitors.

The second book in the series .... 'The Vampire Diaries' .... namely 'The Struggle' and as the title suggests it is a struggle for Elena to choose the right brother !!!

Really fast paced and I read it in a couple of hours ...... Loved it ...... And now have to go out and scout around for the next few books .........

Damon just doesn't seem to want to leave ....... He has his eyes set on Elena and no one else will do ........ Can Stefan protect her? ......... And will the towns people start to get suspicious?

Again really well written that you really don't want to put it down ....... I love the characters and you cannot help but love the bad boy Damon !!!

Another great fantasy read !!!

I rate this book 4****

Warning: There is some blood-drinking in this book !!

The Awakening (The Vampire Diaries) by L J Smith (4)

In book one of the first Vampire Diaries omnibus, The Awakening, Elena is a high school golden girl, the one boys want and girls want to be. And Elena is used to getting what she wants. When she meets handsome, haunted Stefan, he struggles to resist her because of his dark secret. Stefan is torn by guilt over his past, and mindful of the threat that his vengeful brother, Damon, poses to anyone Stefan gets close to. Soon Elena finds herself torn between two brothers—and in terrible danger.

This is another series that you have bound to have heard of because of the new series that just started based on the books. The Vampire Diaries Books have been out a while well before Twilight so it was interesting to see if there was any similarities with the two of them .....

The characters in the series are a little bit different than the book but I suppose it had to be fluffed out abit of TV ....... But don't get me wrong I am lovin the Tv series at the moment ...

Anyway back to the book ...... Elena is blond, feisty, and the queen bee of the school ... Everyone adorns her or wants to be her ...... Her parents died 3 years prior and her and her baby sister are now living with her Aunt .... Things start to change when a new mysterious boy starts to turn heads ...... But for some reason he is avoiding Elena ...... She is going to have to use all her womanly charms on in order to catch him ...

But then strange things start to happen around town ..... And the eerie feeling that someone is watching her ........ Enter handsome but bad Damon ...

I took me abit to get the character of Elena in my head because she is different than the character in the TV series ....... But she is one Strong lady :) ........

I really enjoyed the book and it flowed really well ... Interested on how the relationship between the two brothers develop as the books go on ....

So if you love your fantasy and Vampire Books this is a must series for you to own and read ....

I rate this book 4 ****

Books in the series in order:
The Awakening
The Struggle
The Fury
Dark Reunion
Nightfall

And just to wet your appetite here's a pic of the cast of 'The Vampire Diaries' check it out if you haven't already ....

Blood Promise by Richelle Mead (41/2)

Bound by love, but sworn to kill ... The rest of the world had considered Dimitri dead. And to a certain extent, he was. But I hadn't been able to forget a conversation he and I had once had. We'd both agreed that we'd rather be dead, truly dead that walk the world as Strigoi. It was time to honour our words.

I have anxiously been waiting for this book to come out ..... As the last book in the series ended with a cliff-hanger ....... And I was not disappointed ....... It seems that the more the series goes on the better the books are .....

Warning this will contain spoilers if you have not read the previous books ... Rose's world has fallen apart with Dimitri changed to a Strigoi ..... Her mission now is to find him and kill him.... But when she is face to face with Dimitri will she be able to carry out the promise she made to him ...

You still have your favourite characters in Lissa and also the wickedly lovely Adrian and some new characters appearing as well ..... It is a really easy read and Richelle takes you through many twists and turns ....

If you love your Vampire books then this series is one you should read ..... The only problem now is that I have to wait until next year to see what happens .......

I rate this book 41/2 ****

Books to in series in order:
Vampire Academy
Frostbite
Shadow Kiss
Blood Promise
Spirit Bound ( coming out in 2010)

Strange Angels by Lili St Crow (4)

Dad? Zombie.
Mum? Long gone.

Me? Well, that's the scary part.

Dru Anderson has been 'strange' for as long as she can remember, travelling from town to town with her father to hunt the things that go bump in the night. It's a weird life, but a good one – until it all explodes in a broken-down town when a hungry zombie busts through her kitchen door. Alone, terrified, and trapped, Dru's going to need every inch of her wit and training to stay alive. Chances of survival? Slim to none.

If she can't last until sun up, it's game over...

The first installment of a new series ........... And I loved it ........ This is Lili St. Crow's first stab at the Young Adult Market and it is great !!! ......... If you love your fantasy this book has it all ... Vampires, Were's and a host of other creatures .......... Throw a couple of hunky guys in the mix and you have your romance as well :) ........

The character of Dru is sassy and funny at the same time .... And even though she has been brought up knowning about the 'other world' around us ....... She is still unprepared for what is going to happen ....... Who can she trust? ..........

It is great that there are so many books out there at the moment with girl heriones .... And Dru is definately one of them ...... The next book 'Betrayals' comes out in November so not much of a wait thankfully ........

The only down side to the book is there is abit of swearing in it ....... Otherwise I would have rated it higher ........ So if you are looking to take a bite out of some fantasy ........ This book is for you !!!

I rate this book 4 ****

Here's the Book Trailer ... Enjoy :)

Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice (41/2)

In A Darkened Room A Young Man Sits Telling The Macabre And Eerie Story Of His Life - The Story Of A Vampire, Gifted With Eternal Life, Cursed With An Exquisite Craving For Human Blood. Anne Rice's Compulsively Readable Novel Is Arguably The Most Celebrated Work Of Vampire Fiction Since Bram Stoker's Dracula Was Published In 1897. As The Washington Post Said On Its First Publication, It Is A 'thrilling, Strikingly Original Work Of The Imagination ...sometimes Horrible, Sometimes Beautiful, Always Unforgettable'.

The first book in the Series The Vampire Chronicles ..... And really this is where all the Vampire books really stem from apart from Bram Stoker's Dracula. Hard to imagine that this was written in 1976 .. I would have been 4 years of age !!! ...... It is a brilliant book to read and one of those that is one the 1001 books you should read before you die ... And quite rightly so it was a real pleasure to read :) ........

The basically narrated by Louis who got turned by Lestat a vampire .... It will be interesting to read the other books as they are about Lestat to see if my feelings change over the course of the next two books ... We read of the struggle that Louis has that even though he is turned into a vampire he still feels human emotion which is unheard of by any other vampire ...

This book is a must read if you are a Vampire Lover just because if we didn't have this novel we wouldn't have such a wide range of Fantasy Authors today .........

I rate this book 4 1/2 ****

The rest of the series goes like this ... The Vampire Lestat (1985); The Queen of the Damned (1988)

As you know this book got made into a movie which I just loved .... And it was not to bad with sticking to the book ...... But as ever the book is better :) ..... But you have a brilliant cast in Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst who plays the young girl brilliantly ...... Here's the trailer .... Enjoy

Stargazer by Claudia Gray (5)

In Stargazer, Bianca returns to Evernight, and she now understands the dark, centuries-old feud between vampires and hunters that prevents her and Lucas from ever being together. But even though everyone thinks Bianca has given up on him and embraced her destiny of becoming a vampire, she's found a way to communicate with him. But when Evernight is attacked, she discovers that she's not the only one who's been keeping secrets, and her world is turned upside down.

The much awaited 2nd book in the Evernight series which if possible is better than the first book ...... The third book comes out in December in the USA so I may have to ask some of my American friends very nicely to get me a copy when it comes out !!!

Since everyone loves Twilight and looking for another series to read ... This is it ..... I read it in a day and loved it :) .... ( And not just because the cover is purple my favourite colour ) ...

Bianca is back a the Evernight Academy trying to figure out why humans are admitted to the school !!! ....... She is still in love with Lucas but things prove difficult when your boyfriend is a member of the Black Cross ( Vampire Hunters ) ........ Bianca finds herself changing more and more each day into a Vampire !!!!! .... When strange things start to happen at the Academy ... Maybe all those ghost stories ours parents told us about are actually true !!!

Again if you love your fantasy, Vampire books then this series is for you :) I just have to hang out now for book 3 !!!!

I rate this book 5 *****
