'The Dead-Tossed Waves' by Carrie Ryan [5]

Gabry lives a quiet life, secure in her town next to the sea and behind the Barrier. She's content to let her friends dream of the Dark City up the coast while she watches from the top of her lighthouse. Home is all she's ever known, and all she needs for happiness.
But life after the Return is never safe, and there are threats even the Barrier can't hold back.
Gabry's mother thought she left her secrets behind in the Forest of Hands and Teeth, but like the dead in their world, secrets don't stay buried. And now, Gabry's world is crumbling.
One night beyond the Barrier ...
One boy Gabry's known forever and one veiled in mystery ...
One reckless moment, and half of Gabry's generation is dead, the other half imprisoned.
Gabry knows only one thing: if she is to have any hope of a future, she must face the forest of her mother's past.
I have been so waiting for the sequel to the 'Forest of Hands and Teeth' and I wasn't disappointed with it. The story is about Mary's daughter Gabry, so it's set about 12 years after Mary arrives on the beach. Gabry has been fairly sheltered from the evil that is outside the barriers, but one night with her friends changes her whole world.
Gabry meets a new boy called Elias who is from the outside world and she has feeling for him ... but that can't be right because she has always loved Catcher, her best friends brother. All these new thoughts and feelings are racing through her as well as trying to stay alive from the Mudo.
A brilliant sequel to the first novel, the only problem with it is you'll have to wait for the next installment because it's left HANGING.....
I read this in about 5 hours as I just could not put it down.
A little tricky to start with as you are getting to know new characters and their language for what they call the Unconsecrated etc, but apart from that just fantasic.
all I can say is ... 'Hurry up and Write the next one.'
I rate this book 5 stars.

The Forest of Hands & Teeth by Carrie Ryan (5)

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets and the Guardians and their power and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future - between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

This is the first book of the RIP challenge that I am doing ...... And I loved it :) ........ It was an easy read and I couldn't put it down .......... Dishes and Kids where left to my poor husband to sort out while I was totally engrossed in the book ........ Like a another reviewer said "putting the book down is not an option."

It is a young adult read and yes it does have Zombies in it ......... I heard that they have decided to make this into a movie which will be brill ...... Reading it did remind me abit of 'The Village' but a totally different concept ..... I will definitely be going out and buying more books by Carrie ...

Ok getting back to the book .... It is about a girl called Mary who lives in a village surrounded by the Unconsecrated ........ She dreams for escaping and hopes that there are other people like her beyond the Forest of Hands & Teeth .... Her whole world changes when her Mother is turned ...... And her only option is to stay with the Sisterhood who claim they are the ones who protect the village ....

If you love fantasy books and of course Zombie books you are going to eat this up ( excuse the pun )

I rate this book 5*****

Here is short trailer put together for the book ...

I am excited as the companion/sequel to The Forest of Hands & Teeth is coming out in the Spring 1010 in USA ......

New Challenge - RIP

Everyone knows that I am a sucker for a new challenge but this one just looks to cool to pass up .... So here are the rules:

Mystery.
Suspense.
Thriller.
Dark Fantasy.
Gothic.
Horror.
Supernatural
.

The desire for the thrill that comes with this kind of reading drifts in on the autumn winds. You breathe it in and it takes hold of you, tempting you to late nights, book-in-hand, turning pages and starting at every unknown noise. Something wicked this way comes…

I find that kind of melodramatic fear to be a delicious intoxication, one that makes this time of year an especially enjoying time to be a reader. There is enough bad fear in the world: fear of losing one’s job, fear of the state of the world, fear of failure…the list is endless. It is time to reject that fear, embrace hope, and while doing so embrace the fun kind of fear–the kind that had us sitting around camp fires as children, listening to adults tell us ghost stories. The kind that made you want to stay up past your bed time to peek at the late night scary movie on television.

There are two simple goals to the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril Challenge:

1. Have fun reading.
2. Share that fun with others.

As I do each and every year, there are multiple levels of participation that allow you to be a part of R.I.P. IV without adding the burden of another commitment to your already busy lives.

R.I.P. IV officially runs from September 1st through October 31st. But lets go ahead and break the rules. Lets start today!!!

Multiple perils await you. You can participate in just one, or participate in them all.

I have signed up for this challenge .... Which is four books ........

So if you feel like joining me here's the link .......

Here's my list

1. The Forest of Hands & Teeth By Carrie Ryan

2. The Scent of Shadows by Vicki Pettersson

3.The Taste of Night by Vicki Pettersson

4. The Touch of Twilight by Vicki Pettersson

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan 3***

In Mary's world there are simple truths.
The sisterhood always knows best.
The Guardians will protect and serve.
The unconsecrated will never relent.

And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.

But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the sisterhood and it's secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future - between the one she loves and the one who loves her.

And she must face the truth about the Forest of the Hands and Teeth.

Well... what can I say... wasn't quite what I was expecting, but then I'm not really sure what I was expecting. It's a bit like the Village/I am Legend, wasn't really my cup of tea, but for those of you that like zombie type books you'll enjoy reading this one.

The concept of the story was interesting but I found the plot a little slow at times, yet I still had this morbid fascination to see how it all ended, and even then I was a little disappointed. It is a bleak kind of story, but also a story of humanities need to survive.

I personally wouldn't pick it up again... but I'm not into zombies either...!
