Change of Heart - by Jodi Picoult (5)

June Nealon's world changes forever when her husband and only daughter, at the time, are found dead. The police arrest Shay Bourne, the Nealon's handyman, at the scene of the crime. Shay is found guilty of the double homicide and is sentenced to death.

At the time of the murder June is pregnant. Twelve years on June is a single mother raising her daughter Claire. But Claire is facing a death sentence of her own, she is in urgent need of a heart transplant and with time running out June is waiting on a miracle.

The miracle that June has been waiting for could be in the form of Shay. Shay believes his last chance at salvation lies with his heart.

This book explores the themes of foregiveness, capital punishment, religion and the law.

  • When does belief turn into religion?
  • Should we question our beliefs?
  • Do you believe in miracles?
  • Should law makers consider religion when making decisions?

I am a Jodi Picoult fan. She writes very topical books that provoke feelings and thoughts which you may not have come up against in your day to day life.

I did read this book, and I would have enjoyed it more if it were not for ...well, I don't want to give away any endings, but there was enough about this book that disturbed me that I still don't know to this day what I think of it. If I could get away from the nastiness factor of reality, then I could accept it just for literary sake. I just don't know....
